Kingz BJJ Gi – What You Ought To Know

As in the olden days, a martial art follower gives extreme consideration to the equipments that he use. Similarly the modern martial artists have a lot of venders and manufacturers specialized in production of various equipments to search and buy their utility materials.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) kimono is the uniform used now like an armor suit that the warriors of yesterdays had worn. In the ancient days in Japan, both the males and females wore a short pant-like dress with a top jacket. In due course, the modern martial art uniform judogi came into existence.

The sophisticated light weight Gis from Kingz Kimono is in fact an adaptation of the ancient uniform of the martial artists.

Keiko is a word commonly used in all martial arts to indicate practice. Like this, Gi is meant for indicating the clothing which is combined with another word in Japanese language. This single word is always used as an indication for martial art uniforms in countries other than Japan.

A Kingz Gi generally has three parts, a heavy jacket called uwagi as the upper part, a light weight string pant known as shitabaki with a cotton self-tie belt known as Obi.

A BJJ Gi from Kingz is almost like the martial art uniform called keiko-gi, but has a tighter fit on the cuffs of the jacket and the pants as suited for the type of sport. The BJJ gi is particularly designed to reduce chances for the opponents to manipulate the fabric.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu uniform is a transformed form of the traditional gi. The special features of the Gi include minimal use of seams, a jacket back with seamless extra knee padding and reinforced seams where ever possible.

A reinforced back not only gives comfort but also protects the uniform from the possible wear and tear. Padded knees, reinforced under arms and even thick rubberized collars are provided as additional features to the present day Gi.

The Kingz Kimono Gi, a product of cotton fabric is manufactured in four specific grades. They are known as single weave; double weave, golden weave and platinum weave, which are however no standardized indications yet. Normally the cotton is woven into a thick and strong jacket with different features.

Golden weave is nothing but an indication of the look and feel of the particular clothing. The ideal choice of a student at the beginning stage of the art is a single weave Gi that is always light in weight and easy to maintain.

But it lacks durability when matched with a double weave. An investment for double weave is advisable for a student who goes on to the ardent stages of practices and participates in more number of events, sessions and competitions. Golden weave is ideal for those who are serious committed to the martial arts.

A long stapled cotton fiber is used for manufacture of this brand. Platinum weave is another light weight version. Though higher quality cotton is used for these specific brands, their durability is almost comparable to a double weave Gi. These are mostly used by the instructors and competitors.

The standardized colors of BJJ kimonos are blue; black and white as permitted by the competition rules. However we see products of different colors in the market, some of which are specifically used by certain clubs to indicate their identity. In all cases, the colors of the jacket should match with the color of the pant while the belt will be worn according to the distinctive grade of the practitioner.
