Self Defense For Women
At least one among six women in America is sexually being violated in their life times, which is a shocking revelation that many Americans still seem to be unaware of. Though this is a frightening statistic, it is no doubt true. In certain situations of life, it may be beyond control to avert all such incidents, but some steps are still possible, to contain them to a great extend. Such counter measures mainly include, self- defence programs like Karate or other forms of martial arts. When confronted with physicals assaults, women too are equally capable of striking back in self-defence like men. In fact, carrying self-defence weapons like pepper spray or hand gun are not always solutions, for, there are chances for retaliation by the attackers, by forcibly grabbing such weapons. But whatever be your limitations, it is for you alone to guard your body and the right solution lies in learning Karate. You may locate the five locations in your body that can be used as your weapons:- 1) Your Legs. In martial arts like Karate, legs play a major role by holding you firm on the ground and maintaining your body balances. If the circumstances so permit, they will also help you to flee from dangerous situations, in self-defence. 2) Your Voice. You may not be aware of the role of your voice in averting or defending an attack. The sudden loud scream that is preparatory to a defensive attack in martial arts like Karate, will be a warning signal for your attacker, who would be made to think twice, whether to fight or withdraw. 3) Your Knees. The knee has a great role in striking. If you are unable to avert your attacker by your initial scream, the next close weapon is your knee, by which you can strike at the groin of your foe. An assault on the groin would break you free from the attacker and give you an edge over the attacker. With these advantages, you can either continue with your hits or withdraw from the scene. 4) Your Elbows. Karate teaches you various successive movements with your elbows. In martial art, you can use your knees to strike at the sensitive points of the body, like head, belly, and throat or chin. In a striking position, the elbow being a thick bone, could harm any attacker considerably and give you an upper hand in the fighting. A pointed strike with the elbow on the trunk of the body of the attacker can block his chest and leave him confused for some time. 5) Your Hands. Karate greatly depends on open hand, closed fist and fingers of the striker. A close strike with fingers into the eyes of the attacker will push his head backward, opening up other areas for further strikes. Learning the art of Karate is not only for the sake of your self-defence, but it also helps maintain the fitness levels of your body and heart. You can maintain your body fully in shape, by shredding unwanted weight and altogether you will experience a great positive change.
