Why Karate Kata Is Important For New Karatekas?


Kata forms an essential and integral part of karate which helps an individual to focus and develop on karate skills. Prerequisites for karate are focus, flexibility, sharpness and physical fitness which are known to be enhanced by the practice of Kata.

A session of kata constitutes workouts of almost all the muscles in the body giving overall development and fitness. Emphasis on arms, legs, quadriceps, shoulder and calve muscles during kata workout gives excellent results in developing these muscles.

Strengthening of muscles of arm including muscles of cape and collar are emphasized upon whilst practicing kata. Working in pairs is stressed during the process of Bunkai which enables to develop upon memory skills and induces discipline.

Sharpness in karate moves are incited by practicing in kata and also help in harnessing natural reaction skills. Kata is generally taught in stages and kata moves are repeated to deliver enhanced skills, reaction and power. With time and practice, the practitioner acquires knowledge and experience.

It is essential for practitioner to repeat and test every kata they have learned and should endeavor to improve upon it. Practitioner performs new kata along with previously learned katas to have an effective and efficient work out regime.

Blocking and effectively counterattacking are essential elements of this technique. Perfect timing, speed and accuracy are given priority. This emphasis on accuracy helps the practitioner to remain calm and unstressed.

Moves of competitors are visualized by the kata practitioner and practiced over and over again. With time these skills grow and the practitioner becomes expert at reacting to difficult situations. Overall, the practitioner becomes expert at karate with aid of kata.

Effectiveness of kata in throwing punches, kicking and other karate moves is a well-known fact. Effective reaction in unusual circumstances and showing swiftness in movements are vital elements of this technique.

The motive behind all practiced move should be to fully understood and subsequently reap benefits of the technique. Various practices like breathing exercises, meditation, concentration, discipline and power aid in further enhancing karate skills and when used in conjunction with kata, gives astonishing results.
